I'm conducting a survey about views that American citizens have towards this words. I wanna know what comes to mind. In conclusion, I want to experiment if The Black Legend is still alive and active in the United States. If you don't know what the Black Legend is, just googled it and find out if you want, but you dint have to know to answer my questions.

I'm thinking the Spain dialect would be more for Europe. Am I right?

Can somebody please give me a somewhat brief and short list of careers/jobs/occupations that requires knowledge of the spanish language or the ability to speak this language.

Tnx

Native Mexican-spanish please.

My study material states that 'le' is not a reflexive pronoun, which is confusing because I've learnt to use it in that context. Does 'se' replace 'le' when dealing with reflexive verbs? Thank you.

We were having this girl’s night out attending a Poetry event on campus. A cute boy from Belize I been rejecting all semester long came up to the group speaking Spanish. He feel more confident speaking his native tongue around me (We all got a class together, my friends know he can speak English)

My friends think I was being rude to talk with him in Spanish around them...

When traveling in Mexico, I smile when I meet a Mexican National with perfect non-accented English. In contrast, I still meet American-born Hispanics with heavy Spanish accents. Someone told me that learning English at an early age (even as a second language) breaks that accent carryover. Is that true?

First of all, thank you to those who answered my earlier question!

1) Can you please change the crib sheets today. Thank you.

thanks!

I live in El Paso TX, and everyday about 10,000 Mexican residents cross the border to work on this side. It's driven the job market to the point where you have to speak Spanish, be Mexican and/or know somebody to get a job. I can't even get a scholarship because they've all been given to Mexican residents! Is it just me, or is this illegal? And if it isn't, should it be?
To clarify: I did not intend to sound racist, and apologize if I offended anyone. We were just stationed here, and I am shocked at the way a lot of us military spouses are discriminated against especially in a city whose economy is supported by an Army base. There's less discrimination on bases in other countries! BTW, the source for my statistics is the Bureau of Transportation. If you're interested in seeing how many people cross the Mexican-US border legally, check out this link.

How are those spanish differ from each other?

I need to fly to tucson AZ and the rent a car and drive to Hermosillo,Sonara, Mexico....But I can't read or speak Spanish at all....Is this possible....Please don't tell me to fly because that just isn't an option..Do you know how long it would take?

I'm beginning to think my friends made it up. Please help, this word is plaguing me.
I don't mean to be offensive by saying Mexican Spanish. It's just that my Columbian, Puerto Rican, Peruvian, and Spanish friends have never heard the word, but it was explained to me as a word used in Mexico. Different countries have different dialects, ya know. I am doing my best to be culturally sensitive, not offensive...so relajate dyani

If I speak Spanish, will it be easy to communicate in Italy?

i noticed that people in spain talk faster than latin american people. is this true?

can a columbian be considered a mexican or spanish?

Not like broken English or a foreigner trying to speak it. Like Ebonics or a latino not educated properly to speak the language. Can a person who learned Spanish (2nd language) tell the difference when a hispanic speaks it properly and a Hispanic who speaks spanish ebonics?

I really wanna work oversesabut i have no experience about it.

Which one do I learn then?

What are the signifacence of these words in English, (the words that are being shouted and shouted back) Whats the significence of Ojo! Spanish words shouted out in battle cry?

What 3 activites or traditions do Mexicans do celebrate Independence Day.

What is the country that Mexico gained their indepence from and in which year did this occur?

What is the name of the Spanish phrase shouted each year by the Mexican President and its meaning in English?

Are Americans becoming too illiterate to speak English where they have to settle with Telemundo or is Telemundo for Mexican tourists that forget their pocket translators? Every time I pass Telemundo on the television I realize that people are never going to learn are they? That's very sad and I sure feel sorry for them. There are far too many ignorant people in this world. We need a publisher to design an English learning program that would be easier for Spanish speaking people:) That would be the answer.

I'm a student that studies Spanish.. and I'd like to know as much as I can about Spanish and South American cinema.. (:
SO tell me, about the movies... the producers.. the directors... and which are the best films in your opinion? What about your favourites??

Best organized and most elaborate answer gets 10 points! ^_^

It is considered also with the Italian to be the best food in the world!
Is it just because there where no pure Spanish immigrants to the US?
If you know some restaurant that serves Spanish food where you live please tell me!
For those who don't know about Spanish food, here are some examples:

Paella a la Valenciana
Fabada Asturiana
Cachelos
Callos a la Madrileña
Lentejas
Puchero
Pulpo a la Gallega
etc...
LOL, what are the "red states"?
Yes, I never found anyone in Iowa!

To J F :

You couldn't be more stupid and ignorant...
First of all, I'm 100% Spanish, not indigenous like you, garbage picker.
All my family lives in Spain.
Spanish food, not Mexican crap, is if not the best, the second best kind of food in the world.
Argentine beef, is by far the best in the world (and all of it is organic FYI). Everybody knows that!
And no, there are almost none Spanish rest. in the US!!!
Just crappy Mexican shit.
You probably just live on tacos and that crap, so you'd never know...
And, at last I have traveled to Spain 6 times, and 11 times to the US, so I'm not a cheap indian like you.
I make more money in a month that you'd ever make in your poor, sorry, obscure, indian, endogamic life...

I'm an English speaker learning Spanish. When I meet a Spanish-speaking stranger in public, they speak faster than I can take in the words. How can I politely let them know I'm a rank beginner and not very fluent yet?

stop mispelling colour and cheque and mispronouncing tomatoeshould demand our language be returned forthwith and let them all speak ruddy Mexican or Urdu,we should send our troops that would sort them out

Why do Spanish speaking people seem to get upset when they find out he doesn't speak Spanish?
He was born in California, his parents were born in California and his Grand parents were born in California. His parents speak it, but never taught any of their 6 kids!
He is proud of who he is, his parents just didn't teach him Spanish. People should not treat him differently just because he doesn't know Spanish!

cuz im trying to find my friend on myspace :/

if what ive heard is correct, most of the people in argentina originated from italy...

if that is the case (or some of them anyway) why do the people there speak spanish and not italian?

or do some of them speak italian too?

What spanish/latin american food is easy to cook? I need to cook it on tuesday and bring it to school wednesday.

If so, do you feel other mexicans give you attitude or look down at your for not know spanish or being into the latino culture a lot?

I'm mexican and I don't know spanish and neither does anyone in my family. We have been in this country for over 3 or 4 generations now so we are assimilated as you can get. We don't celebrate mexican heritage or culture and don't eat or like mexican food anymore than other types of food. I'm 1/2 mexican, 1/2 filipino but look 100% mexican and many other mexicans always assume I speak spanish and when they find out I dont I get some sort of dirty look or attitude it seems like more times than not. I didn't grow up around other mexicans b/c i lived in a predominantly white upper middle class suburb. I was just wondering if there are other mexicans or latinos out there that don't speak the language, are not into the culture, and are basically "white washed" as some have said like me. And how do you feel about it?
Also I was born and raised in the SF Bay Area and currently live in San Diego so I come into contact with a lot of mexicans straight out of Mexico litterally. And when I do occasionally venture south to Mexico I feel a similar response from people there.
I definately consider myself american b/c I don't identify with mexican culture at all but it's like i'm stuck in between the two. Some white people, not the majority or that many, make assumptions about me and where I'm from b/c how I look. Then on the other hand Mexican's do the same. So to some white people I'm not that american b/c my skin color and to some mexicans I'm not mexican b/c the way i act.
Also this isn't a problem I have all the time or even that often, but when it does occur it just bugs the hell out of me.
