This weirdo who bought something from ebay all of the sudden assumes I am 100% mexican even before he acutally bought the item he asked. And now I just got an email from him now that the item is shipped asking why I dont speak spanish and if I am mexican and why I dont speak spanish because I have a mexican last name or whatever. thankfully I can translate everything this guy is saying in spanish throught google translate, I know he speaks english. what should I do about this guy? I am really trying to keep this as professional as I can.

I'm trying to learn. i notice fluent speakers speak it so fast! could it be spoken a little slower? my friend is brazilian, he says they only understand spanish people when they speak it slowly!

Seriously. The job always goes to a mexican that speaks no english and has half, if any, experience. I have found this issue to be more recurring during the down times of the economy and it seems like if your white your "over qualified" for jobs like fast food, farm fields, janitorial services, even government jobs. I have not a damn clue what is happening with this country. Anyone want to educate me on the fact of the matter?

I want to be fluent i Spanish by living with a Hispanic family. I know there are universities that offer exchange programs, but I do not want to go through a university. Is there anyway I could live in Mexico and just pay a Mexican family board to learn Spanish?

hello, I'm asian male(pure japanese)
some people(latinas) try to speak to me in Spanish maybe I look like a little spanish I don't know.
so, what should I say back to him in Spanish?
thanks.

I always use the term mexican-american for myself because I can't just say mexican because I'm not from Mexico. I can't say just American because in everyones eyes that means Anglo. I am a 5th gen. American on my mothers side and on my fathers side we can trace back 8 gen. here in Cali, back to the Mexican-American war days. Everyday I get people talking to me in spanish and when I say I don't speak spanish they are all surprised and ask a bunch of questions like "why don't you speak spanish"? and other stupid questions. They act like they are so amazed! Some think I don't speak it because I don't like it. It's annoying sometimes-they are so ignorant. If I knew it I would speak it but I don't and if I wanted to right now I'm sure I could take classes and learn but it's not a main focus in my life right now. Some will say - You turned your back on your culture and crap but I'm proud to be chicano and know my history. Why is it only hispanics who make a big deal of his. Other races don't

i have taken spanish since 7th and i am in 10th now
how can i learn to speak it more fluently?
i am only ok i dont remeber much vocab because i only have it 45 mins aday and i dont pay attention as well as i should.
what can i do to help?
are there any websites that can help me?

I have been dating a guy whose parents immigrated from Mexico, he speaks both Spanish and English, and I have picked up some Spanish while I've been with him. I would like to learn some words and phrases though to use when it's just the two of us. Nothing too crass :) Just something to surprise him with. Thanks for your help!

this mexican girl that speaks no english has worked at our family restaurant for a year until she quit recently in may. i speak some spanish but we mostly communicate through text message with translations from yahoo answers. a month after she quit i asked her to go out and we went out 3 times. i took her to the mall, bowling, aquarium. i kissed her on the third time we went out. one week later i took her to play tennis and we didnt go out for a month. we didn't communicate very much either after we kissed. i then asked her out to go shopping after a month and she said yes. i bought her a few things at the mall and when i dropped her off she kissed me, (she made the move) she is extremely pretty and has guys hitting on her non-stop. she is 23 and good catholic girl. she is very nice. i dont know if she likes me or she kissed me because i bought her some clothes. what to do?

mariposa and magnus: that was pretty much what i was i thinking...i was just wondering if women used it as a reference too, which i imagine they do. gracias!

Also,Would it b a waste of time to learn castillean spanish? Does spain only speak it?and how much of a challenge is it, if it is hard? Gracias

While Ashley has not required their supervisors to speak Spanish yet, they have recommended that they learn it. The suggestion implies that for promotion you must speak Spanish.
Why would a company in a town of predominantly Polish and Norwegian descendants need to speak Spanish.
The workers have always come from there and the surrounding towns which share the same ethnicity.
This company has been caught hiring illegals in the past. This has not deterred them; in fact they are still bringing them in and catering to them to the extent of implying that anyone who does not cater to the illegals will be putting future advancement or current positions in jeopardy.
Why would they need to speak Spanish, when many of the Mexican workers who have invaded this town, at the behest of Big Business, claim “No habla Ingles while at work, but habla fine after work in the bar.

Is it time that Americans REFUSE to cater to illegals?

Is it time that Americans remind the Government that our laws need to be enforced; that they are supposed to protect, represent, and serve us, their citizens?

If the illegals are allowed to ignore our laws, and the Government and big business also ignore our laws: is it time for us to ignore the laws which work against us and take back our country?
I don't work there, I used to and still have many friends who still do. My source is a supervisor there with whom I used to go to church.
Currently I am going to college for my BA degree.
This is not "made up", my friend is now taking Spanish to protect his job for his childrens future.
Our Govenment and Big business is holding our childrens futures hostage to ensure our compliance with their program of forcing us to accept the end of personal rights.
Putnuck, been there done that.
It is a big complex, when they hit one part the word spreads and the other parts lose some workers for a few days, then everything goes back to normal. It honestly doesn't even seem to slow them down.

To the poster who bought the junk furniture: They used to call it throw-away furniture in their training for new hires because it is only expected to last five years.
Now they call it replacable furniture.
Who ever would have thought that we would some day have to be politicaly correct when refering to furniture.

He only can say he doesnt speak spanish, in spanish to her because thats all he knows.

Im very interested in the whole hispanic culture, alot of my friends are hispanic and im always listening to alot of reggaeton. I have always been interested in speaking spanish from a young age. Can somebody help me out please?

In Texas a large percentage of Americans who are of Mexican ancestry are non Spanish speaking, and most are highly assimilated in the sence that English is their first language, and they do not hold on to any Mexican cultural ancestral values.I see this more often in the 4th and 5th generation USA born Mexican American peoples.

Hey, I go to a school where a lot of kids speak Mexican, and I can't understand them! I can only interact with American-speaking individuals such as myself. How do I learn the Mexican languages, I wish they just speek American, but they can't tough it? Thanks

I was just thinking how wrong sometimes we americans are about ourselves, I just went down to Mexico on a business trip and i stayed with a Mexican family in a upper-class neighbourhood, and it was new to me to see that there are actually many white mexicans some of them even blonde but they are 100%mexican citizens some of them do not even speak english, on the other hand it is not rare to see in the US speacially in the southern states "mexican-looking people" and some of them are 5th generation mexicans and lost completely the language and they speak English and some of them know nothing of Spanish...I know that race and nationality have nothing to do with each other (specially in America) but still it made me think of stereotypes and how wrong we can be....any similar stories???

They are two different races!

she basically said "you speak spanish that's weird" just curious why it was said?

i am mexican and i speak an ok englisk and i will go to usa next month but, i have a thick accent. however i think i have a good pronunciation but, the opinion that i really care is the one of native speaker like you americans... is the mexican accent hard to comprehend?

I have the choice to learn between Spanish (Spanish) and Spanish (Latin American). What is the difference between the two languages? I know that Latin American means the southern countries in South America (e.g. Argentina, Brazil) but whats the diference between the LANGUAGES.

Thanks.

I will need 5 employees, and one supervisor. But if I hire a bilangual staff of Spanish/english speakers, I probably will need a bilangual supervisor too, right? I anticipate probably at least 30% of my customers will speak only spanish or prefer to communicate with spanish speaking store personnel.

I have a job interview this week at a retail store. I live in a city with a high population of Spanish speakers with many who only speak Spanish. I have worked retail here before and it was definitely a hindrance. That employer never asked if i spoke Spanish however, assuming I did since I'm Hispanic.

I'm concerned this employer will ask however. If they do ask, how can I respond in a way that makes it seem like less of a handicap?

Hello!
Well, I am mexican and I always have wondered that. You may know that spanish has different pronunciations, in Spain the 's', 'z' and 'c' aren't pronounced in the same way, in Mexico they do.

So, do you learn spanish with mexican pronunciation?

Thank you!!!
