Basically, I want to know if there is a difference between the spanish native speakers of the language speak and the spanish that you learn in school.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A-wB7Sp0h0Q&feature=channel_video_title

I can't seem to figure out. Our teacher assigned us to find out what language they are speaking from this random video as extra credit but I have no idea.

It seems to fit in tha palm of the hands"

Im speaking of the mexican war and such!

And how long did it take? I've been taking Spanish classes since the 6th grade (I'm now in 10th) and I know verryyy LITTLE Espanol. I have a few Honduran, Dominican, El Salvadoran, and Guatamalen friends at school but we don't speak in Spanish when we're around each other. It's kinda crazy because half of my family's Cuban, I just never known how to speak the language. Any suggestions?

Is it because the Spanish demanded that the Native Americans speak the Spanish language? Or was the language voluntarily adopted?
I know that the Europeans "implanted" their languages, but I wasn't sure whether or not the natives were allowed to speak their own languages. None of the history books that I have come across have mentioned anything of the sort.

I have a creative writing assignment in my Spanish IV class to retell a popular American folktale with a spanish influence. I was thinking of making the story about a mexican going to visit her grandmother in America and the wolf is immigration?(not trying to be racist or discriminatory at all) Any better ideas?

Ok im mixed moms Mexican and dad American. I speak a little and understand everything prefect but when i was younger my dad told my mom to stop speaking spanish to us. It was sad

But when i go to Mexico people look at me badly because i dont speak Spanish and im Mexican

What do you think?

Everyone in my family knows English so we speak it the most & my mom whose Mexican speaks it sometimes to us & I'll say "Can you say that in English?"

I'm already familiar with the language; however, I'm concerned that I may not have enough time to learn the hundreds of new vocabulary words there seems to be. Also, the grammar can be a little tricky for me too. Is there a study plan anyone out there can suggest for me?

The celebrations on Spanish TV (e.g. Telemundo, Univision, etc.) was about 4-6 hours long. Despite the language and culture barriers.

September 16th, 1810 marks the 200th anniversary of Mexico! Compare that to July 4th in the US.

I see in these boards that Puerto Ricans or Native Americans get offended for being called Mexican??

Jennifer Lopez is Puerto Rican and she got famous playing the part of a Mexican named Selana.

Esai Morales played who is Puerto Rican played the part of a mexicans brother in the movie "La Bamba."

Erik Estrada played the part of a Mexican in the Los Angeles PD called Chips

Lou Diamond Phillips who is native american got famous for playing the part of a Mexican name Richie Valens in La Bamba.

Some native americans played the part of Mexican/Guatemalan indians in Mel Gibson's movie Acapolicto.

And then they get offended for being called mexicans??

In Florida, all the spanish speaking people are Cubans and carribeans but, Mexicans take the blame because people think that because they speak spanish they are mexican.

Why can't mexicans be allowed to play the part of mexicans in Hollywood movies??

Also any suggestions on how to trill the double "R" words?

Hola.
When people refer to the U.S.A. as a Culture. That culture is rooted on several other cultures, like the Mormons, the Jews, the Pilgrims, The Dutch, the Germans, the Italians, the Rusians,,,( you name it).
But in the SouthWest were also the Germans, the Portuguese, the Russians, the Armenians, the Irish, the Mexicans, the Spanish colonization was a melting pot as well.
If you hate indigenous people, or poor people , just say it... But don't mix concepts like Mexican ( Nation ) with racial, ethnic or other issues that are politically incorrect.
Ciao.
Mexican immigrants and Mexican-American U.S Citizens are loyal to the USA, but Proud of their cultural/ethnic/linguistic/heritage.. Do u agree with this?
The South West from Texas to California was rooted on Mexican-Spanish colonies.
Those Colonies are also the history, root, and identity of the USA in the West Coast.

We are America
American Society: Who are they? Think about what I wrote above... then rethink about american Society. Who needs more to assimilate into whom? People on you or you on the people?

We are America
The Social Classes:

Yes indeed... Aztecs exploited Chichimecas. Mexicans exploited Aztecs. Spainsh exploited Mexicans. other were also exploited like the Jews by the Egyptians, the Africans by the New Yorkers, etc...

At least not all countries practiced Slavery.
Cheap labor force is needed, but those cheap labor workers deserve more dignity... and that's all about. Equal Human and Civil Rights.
Your Culture is my Culture. It is Ours. We created opur Culture together. E Pluribus Unum.

We are America & United We Stand, unless if you have problem with that!
We are. But among US stand Out The Mexicans.... I know many other hispanic minorities like Cubans or Puerto ricans are jealous about that.
But don't worry U are also Latinos and Hispanos, and you are also Americans, like the Mexican Americans.
We Are.

We are America

my voice mail speaks spanish, i am not a spanish speaker so i dont know what it is saying, even when i try to enter my password i cant hear my messages. i am on verizon and already tried calling the support line and that did not help at all. how can i reset it?

I want to CLEP out of Spanish, but need to do a quick refresher. I'd like to know which form of Spanish is on the CLEP exam.

I speak english fluently, I have a high school education from the US and i have enough money for college tuition and housing. I am 19 years old as well. What is the probabilty I will be able to study in canada then become a permanent resident? And how do I start the process?

Because of my job I deal with people from different Countries, I've found out that I get annoyed by people greeting me or even trying to start a conversation in Spanish, but most people are unable to carry on with a conversation, and that makes it really awkward ,It think this is patronizing am I overreacting?

My neighbors' parents were born in the country of Mexico and both speak English and Spanish fluently.

Anyhow, today at work someone said, "He speaks Mexican good (sic)." and I corrected him by saying, "Mexican is not a language. Do you mean Spanish?". He said, "No. There's a difference between Mexican and Spanish."

So, when I saw my neighbors I asked them. They told me there was a difference but couldn't explain what the difference was.

My thought is that American and Australians have venacular common to their culture, but we don't say that we speak American. We speak English.

So, I'm lost. Is Mexican a language and, if so, what's the difference between Mexican and Spanish?

Besides a taco, the flag, or a sombrero, what comes to mind when someone says "Mexico"?

Preferably one with a storyline that's for somewhat older kids, not things like Plaza Sesamo.

(I'm trying to improve my Spanish. I've tried watching some shows for adults, but the ones I've seen are too focused on love/sex, which I'm not too into. I think there's one called Amy and the Blue Backpack, which is not great, but which I'll be okay with.)
Movies are also okay.

...and not Dora.

I can teach you how to speak spanish if you help me to improve my english :)
if you write your SKIPE in the answer I'll add you :)
