A lot of the words that sound very simialr could mean something completely different. my husband, my children and i took a trip down to Puebla City, Mexico a few years back and what i thought they were saying was something completely different, even though they sounded similar. First I believe it depends on what dilect of spanish you speak.I am Argentinian and I believe that out of all the spanish countries Argentinas spanish is the most similar to italian. When I went to Italy the first time to meet my family I understood maybe 30 percent of what was said. So Spanish helps some what but really dont count on using it to be completely understood.
