not at first but it will catch on. my dog started life with mexicans and now lives with americans. the dog understands commands in both languages.
He should be able to understand "no." If you try and carry on a long conversation in English with it, the dog will probably have a hard time following what you are saying. You may need to get an interpreter.
Animals do not understand any language, they understand the tone in your voice & your actions… firm NO’s or lots of praise & tiny treats..etc, not the words no matter the language
it depends on whether or not they trained the dog in spanish or english….the dog doesnt get language, they just understand sounds as commands. so, if they command him in spanish then enlish might as well be latin…ya follow?
IT DEPENDS WHERE THEY GROW UP. iF THEY GROW UP IN sPAIN, THEY WILL UNDERSTAND SPANISH. bUT IF THEY GORW UP IN AMERICA WHEN PEOPLE SPEAK ENGLISH ALL THEIR LIFE, THEY PROBABLY WOULD NOT UNDERSTAND SPANISH.
dogs don’t speak people, they speak dog, they do understand tone of voice and hand motions though.
Dogs recognize key words. If you say a word that they have not taught him than he will not understand. My dogs understand both spanish and english because we have taught them the same words in both languages.
Sit/ sitate
stay/ espera
come/ vente para ca……. etc.
Yes…most dogs are fluent in Spanish, English, french, and Chinese. mostly cos they went to secret spy dog school when they were younger!
WHAT DO YOU THINK! THEY’RE DOGS FOR GOODNESS SAKE!
Leonie and Merlin (the now laughing Betta)
I speak both and my dogs understand what I mean when "come" or "vente" its more of a tone you use that allows them to understand.
my dog understands commands in Hebrew, English and Spanish. they may not respond as quickly if they are not familiar, but dogs are smart. they get it with repetition
I have had students train their dogs in Spanish, German and French while I was teaching them in English. (don’t ya just luv it) I know that they understood both variations of the commands because on occasion when I would give instructions in English, the dog was already obeying the command I gave before the owner told them in whatever language they were working with. The last test for these students was a silent instructions (cue cards) where only their choice of language was used in command. The dogs knew the commands no matter which language was used. Use both for training, alternating the same command. Walk a bit and command ’sit’ then walk a bit and command ‘foose’ (german) (sorry, I don’t have my spanish list here) repeat the exercise until the dog sits for either form of the word. It does work and they seem to have a quick grasp of what is needed.
