English was a chosen language so all who came to America would be able to understand one another ..so speaking a foreign language in front of those who do not speak it defeats the purpose and once again just another way of keeping a wall up between us .... I have this problem at work may be 2-4 people who speak English very well who choose to exclude me by speaking their language not a good feeling also we all have come from someplace else but those who have been for many generations have even given up their language so as to have a common bond with all that live in America ..even children that have other kids who choose to whisper in front them know it makes them feel bad no difference except as adults we should be more respectful of one another.......

It's not rude. Why do y'all worry what people are saying. So what if they are talking about you. Here's what I'll tell, you most mexicans do not, contrary to popular beliefe, talk about americans, I can vouge because, well I'm spanish possibly mexican (half to reasearch my family history yes there s a difference).

Now i look very white, not to say i cant get dark because of my native american ancestors, but most of the time i'm very white looking at least in the united states, and not when im in mexico. Ok next I can use that to my advanctage because, just about every one knows me at tapatios, a very good mexican restaurant i might add, but I'll sit there and listen to mexicans speak and I just mess around like i dont know the language, and trust me i've never heard any one talk about any americans or what ever. Plus if they do they do it in private, because mexicans are too polite, so here's the deal, so what even if they do it in public. Why should you care, here's more advice don't give a damn what people think about you. Gód niht and/ond godspéd, can y'all figure out what it means, hint it's Old english, it means good night and godspeed pretty close ain't it?

I completely agree with Daryl!!!

Also, it's not rude if all of them were talking together and you had a conversation on the side. Sorry if the conversation was just between you two and didn't concern them. He was more comfortable and if they ask you can repeat what you said later.

If no one else is involved in the particular conversation, such as with you and this boy, then it is acceptable. No one has the right to tell someone which language they should speak when they aren't even involved in the conversation. I feel it is racist to tell people who speak a second language to go back to where they came from to speak that language. This is the United States of America and everyone has the right to speak to whom ever they want to in the language they choose. God Bless America!

1. He's fooling with you as national language of Belize is English.
2. You were not being rude to speak Spanish. Just keep it limited to making him feel accepted and then move on to widening the circle of people who are in the conversation.

Yes. It's the same as telling secrets in front of your friends. Which is rude. Have some class, for Christ's sake.

Yes it is, if you don't want to speak English go back to wherever you came from you are not welcome here in America.

Remember the Alamo

Remember Goliad.

Better yet Remember San Jacinto

I do not think it's rude.

The people who do are people who think you are talking about them when you speak a language they don't understand.

They have an oversupply of self-importance, in my humble opinion.
