At a beginners level it shouldn’t make too much difference one way or the other. The foundations are basically the same – it is largely a matter of pronunciation a few differences of vocabulary that vary from Country to Country.
If you have no intention to travel to Spain, or communicate with any Spanish people then go for Latin American and vice versa, but don’t fret too much about it until you develop your language skills further down the line.
If you’re in the United States, I would think Latin American Spanish would be more beneficial. But I don’t consider myself the definitive word on this. It’s what I was told when I taught myself some Spanish.
I’m taking latin american spanish. they’re about the same – it just doesn’t include things that are only spoken in spain (like vosotros, etc.)
You will learn neither with Rosetta Stone. It is just an overpriced introduction, but it will not teach you much actual language.
Latin American Spanish many country to country variations. A word meaning dog will be an insult just 1000 miles away! I don´t know what Rosetta Stone defines as Latin American Spanish, but I could bet it will be something like mexican or argentinian regionalisms
Spanish is the basic language. If you know this, you will be understood everywhere.
Depends where you plan to do with your Spanish!! Are you planning on going to S.America? If so, L.American Spanish would be best. If you want to go to Spain, do Spain Spanish.
Either way, you will be understood in either place no matter which type of Spanish you decide to choose – it’s a bit like foreign countries which offer courses in American English or British English – what’s the difference really? Accent, and a few words of vocabulary – but British people understand Americans and vice versa!
