I dont have job experience but i speak, read and write spanish fluently, what should i put down for the min. wage that i want if i am applying to a job?
Well i have a LOAD of volunteer experience, through high school, college, and being oversees serving as a missionary for 2 years.

My family is from the Latin America but my tia suggests that I learn proper European Spanish in case I ever go to Spain or get a job that requires Spanish. I wanted to know if it would make a difference.

Hey, I am sixteen....I have always kind of wanted to speak spanish, but so far I have been to lazy or just haven't gotten to it......well now I have a job that everyone speaks Spanish but me.....I feel out of place and I know that they are talking about me.....most of them speak English too, but they speak Spanish more......anyway.....I really wanted to learn Spanish so I could talk to them......and I just think it would be really cool to know.....the thing is I kind of want to learn really fast, and I don't have a lot of money to spend on this either. So if anyone has any ideas, then I would be very happy to hear them!! I need some help...I know this kind of thing isn't easy.

What types are of jobs are there for Americans who do not speak spanish? Will it be hard to get a job and work permit? What type of pay can I expect? Have a 10 year old son. Are there any bi-lingual schools he can attend until he learns spanish? I am currently married to a Panamanian (seperated). He will assist me with the move but I would still like some other opinions. Thanks any advice will be appreciated.

For example, to get a job in healthcare.

I live in El Paso where the population is predominantly mexican, i have been trying to get a job for weeks, but every job i apply for i get turned down because im not billingual. i have two kids to feed and the bills keep coming. it makes me so angry. why cant they get out and live in thier own country? they could make it like america if they like it here so much. im sure mcdonalds would open up a chain down there.
i dont think you idiots understand that in america the official language is english. and just because mexicans invaded shouldnt mean that i have to learn thier language to work.

i work in a preschool and i have six spanish speaking children in my classroom, three of the children are bi-linqual they can speak both spanish and english the other three can speak some but i want to learn how to speak spanish b/c i feel that if i am going to be successful at my job as a teacher i need to be able to communicate with all my children and i feel that the hispanic children would feel more comfortable if they knew that when they entered our classroom their was someone who can speak their lanquage. we do not have a translator in the building at all and i think that this is a disservice to the kids in my room...i have tried to listen to spanish tapes but it does not seem to be working i seem to learn more from the children b/c they teach me certain words and phrases in spanish but i want to learn more b/c i feel it is necessary to service not only our children but their families as well....

I'm applying online to Best Buy right now. It asks if I speak any other languages. I have taken 2 years of Spanish and can communicate fairly well ( I understand it better than speaking), but should I put that on my application? Will it help me get the job? And if it does will I be thrown out to help every Spanish speaking person?

Because of my job I deal with people from different Countries, I've found out that I get annoyed by people greeting me or even trying to start a conversation in Spanish, but most people are unable to carry on with a conversation, and that makes it really awkward ,It think this is patronizing am I overreacting?

Why do I have to pay to learn how to speak Spanish? When someone that speaks Spanish can learn English for free? Most job want some one that can speak both languages

I asked a question before on moving to Ukraine for a year or two and I think I want to do it. However I would like to bring my boyfriend and these are the subjects he teaches. Do you think he can find a job? I also got an answer to my previous question tell me that I should not bring my boyfriend because of Ukrainian women ... can someone tell my why or was that person just being stupid?
Also, what do they think of non-white people in Ukraine? I'm half Mexican.

It is hard to get a job anymore if you don't speak Spanish..Is that fair? I wouldn't mind learning the language but should it be imposed upon us? Some day we will have to #2 for English instaed of #1......

I guess that it is my job. ( both parents job )
Spanish language is the Second Most Spoken in the WORLD!

The MOST Spoken in the Western Hemisphere
( Continental America )
and,...

The Second most Spoken in the U.S.A.

well maybe not mexican american women, but im talking about the ones who don't speak english very well? They seem to be rude to other women out in public and never say exuse me...they laugh and make jokes all the time.
they always pick on the older white lady at my job and tell her what to do all the time why is it that the mexican american women can be nice but the ones who are illegal that come over here are rude like the mexican men? I don't think they were taught how to be nice to others!
call me paranoid but i see it all the time! This one that works at the bank always gives me crap when i putt money on my card! she over c harges me! she says opps im sorry bla bla crap...i think she does it on purpose!

Spanish is my second language, but I would consider myself fluent (Spanish major, spent a year in Costa Rica studying abroad, girlfriend is a native speaker).

I know my potential to get a job will increase, but would my salary increase as well?

If you are qualified to do a job, is it fair to have to be able to speak Spanish because they don't know how to speak English? If I was dealing with people abroad and must speak their language in order to do business, then yes I would understand. But, this is to deal with people right here in America. What's your take?

So i just got a job as a bartender at a Mexican restaurant. My first day went by pretty well and i learned how to make the basic drinks and such. But what things do I need to know to make me good at my job (i have never been a bartender b4)? Also, i speak some spanish, but my vocab is not perfecto, so do any of you spanish speaking people have any restaurant and bar specific terms or vocab that would be helpful to know.

Thanks!

I have been looking for partime work while I go to school. I have done a study and noticed all the places I went had no whites and at jack in the box, on palm ave,Imperial beach,ca, I was asked If I speak spanish then turned down the job because I do not, what happened hear we help all race just to be spit on?

If you are one of the last 2 applicants interviewed for the job and they turn you down because you don't speak Spanish; is that not discrimination?

I´m mexican and I live in Mexico City, I´m an accountant and I speak English, French and Español. Any job is welcome. Thank you. Bye.

My friend in Birmingham wants to move to the Costa Del Sol, she has 5 years of work experience as a Chef and can only speak a bit of Spanish, she's a very slow learner, would it be hard for her to get a job?

I know we're in a recession right now, this question is just hypothetical.

A popular Mexican seafood chain restaurant is being sued by the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, KPRC Local 2 reported Wednesday. The EEOC said two former Ostioneria Michoacán #8 employees were unlawfully fired shortly after being hired.

"During the orientation, they were told they were being fired because they could not speak Spanish and their servers were required to speak Spanish," said Kathy Boutchee with the EEOC. "You can't use Spanish speaking for a requirement as a job unless there is a business necessity. A business necessity is not for the convenience of the employer."

The EEOC said that even though its a Mexican restaurant, located in a largely Hispanic area, the agency's investigation shows the majority of the restaurant's customers are not made up of only Spanish speakers. It said, therefore, speaking Spanish should not be a requirement to work at the restaurant.

The Michoacán Seafood Group's attorney said, "Michoacán is an equal-opportunity employer. The company strongly denies that it engaged in any discrimination. The two former employees in question were terminated for legitimate, business-related reasons. Michoacán will aggressively defend itself and fully expects to prevail in a court of law."

The EEOC said the two former workers are seeking back wages, punitive damages and other relief from the restaurant. http://www.click2houston.com/news/21169062/detail.html

I wanted to apply for this job as a sample make up seller at a kiosk in a mall, they said I seemed qualified and that you don't need any experience or anything they completely train you, but she asked me if I spoke Spanish, I said no, then she wouldn't even let fill out an application. Is that legal or is that considered discrimination? It was a regular corporate store, not a spanish store or anything.

Seriously. The job always goes to a mexican that speaks no english and has half, if any, experience. I have found this issue to be more recurring during the down times of the economy and it seems like if your white your "over qualified" for jobs like fast food, farm fields, janitorial services, even government jobs. I have not a damn clue what is happening with this country. Anyone want to educate me on the fact of the matter?

I am about to lose my job, because the company will close, i used to work translating stuff to my boss and the in the administrative area of a business here in Mexico i have been here 2 years, i am studying but i would like to go to other country and keep studying abroad, I am 21

I live in El Paso TX, and everyday about 10,000 Mexican residents cross the border to work on this side. It's driven the job market to the point where you have to speak Spanish, be Mexican and/or know somebody to get a job. I can't even get a scholarship because they've all been given to Mexican residents! Is it just me, or is this illegal? And if it isn't, should it be?
To clarify: I did not intend to sound racist, and apologize if I offended anyone. We were just stationed here, and I am shocked at the way a lot of us military spouses are discriminated against especially in a city whose economy is supported by an Army base. There's less discrimination on bases in other countries! BTW, the source for my statistics is the Bureau of Transportation. If you're interested in seeing how many people cross the Mexican-US border legally, check out this link.

I am considering moving to Puerto Rico in the future. I have visited there twice, loved it, and i had no problems communicating with the locals, as most of them seemed bilingual. I know some basic Spanish such as, "Como Estas?" "Muchos Gracias" "Por Favor" etc. But is speaking Spanish fluently a requirement to get hired at a job? I have experience in the restaurant business as a chef and my "kitchen spanish" is decent. I was planning on taking Spanish classes to become more fluent once i moved there. Any info would be helpful.

This man lost his job during the present employment crisis. (Almost 10% unemployment now.) He has two daughters and is about to lose his home. He was highly recommended for the job and met all the qualifications except for his inability to speak Spanish. Is something wrong with this picture?

I want to know this because at my job a lot of mexicans come there and it's hard for me to understand them when they are speaking to me. They speak English very poorly. I really would like to learn.
There is a diffrence between the two. Spanish is mostly spain. Latin SPanish is for mexico.

I applied for a job and was told they wouldn't be hiring me because I don't speak spanish. . Do I have rights as an American? Is this discrimination?

Well, actually I'm already near fluent is Spanish, and I have been taught Latin American Spanish. I want to speak peninsular Spanish though because I plan to study a semester in Barcelona or Madrid. The only problem is that I am American, and if I decide to get a job in which I work with Spanish-speaking people, I want to speak more their language (though I realize that both dialects are mutually intelligible).

I have been dating my boyfriend for 4 years. He is Dominican and most of his family only speaks Spanish, which leaves me just sitting there feeling awkward and uncomfortable. I really want to learn Spanish, but I can't afford Rosetta Stone, which is supposed to be "the best". Are there any other programs for a better price that could get the job done?
