Whenever I hear that accent (Castillian I think it's called), I can't help but think that the Spanish are fruitbags. They sound queer, don't they? Whereas, Mexican Spanish sounds masculine and it's often evenly paced. Do Mexicans think lowly of the Spanish because of their gay accent? And do you think it's justifiable to say that Spanish no longer belongs to the Spanish if it sounds so corrupt and wacky like how they pronounce it?
In some businesses I've been to in the United States that advertise themselves as having bilingual staff, I've noticed that most of the workers are Mexicans who yes, speak Spanish very well, but their English is horrible. I'm not trying to make fun of them for their English, but seriously, it seems like bilingual these days means "Spanish required, English optional". I myself speak Spanish way better than some of these people speak English, and yet I doubt I would ever be taken seriously trying to get a bilingual job in California because they can always just go hire a Mexican who speaks Spanish better than me, but who speaks English far worse than me. I just can't understand why there is so much emphasis on Spanish skills but almost none on English. And as a side question, why does it seem like the majority of Chicanos I've met are so arrogant about knowing both languages from birth? I even had one insisting that I'm not a true bilingual because I didn't learn Spanish from birth.
Not one of you understood my question. My question is why do EMPLOYERS care so much about Spanish proficiency but almost nothing about their English proficiency. My question had nothing to do with immigrants refusing to learn English. My question is, why is it that someone who speaks Spanish at a 100% level but English at only a 25% level is hired over someone who speaks English at a 100% level and Spanish at a 75% level. It seems like to be considered "bilingual" you really just have to speak Spanish only, as long as you can get by in English you're bilingual, but if you speak English natively, you have to speak Spanish very well or else you're not bilingual. That was my question: why when it comes to being judged as a bilingual or not, native English speakers have to speak Spanish a lot better than native Spanish speakers have to speak English.
What I was meaning was illegal mexicans that come to America and work 3 jobs and then send all the money they make back to mexican, then expect us to know Spanish. I think you should learn English if you are going to live in america. Sorry if some people don't think English is the offical language of America, but I do. And it is the same for us if we go to another county, we should learn to speak what the majority of the country speaks!!!
How come Mexicans don’t want to speak English in America.Do they want to be Americans, or they want to be something ells?
One would think that central americans don't look drastically different from Mexicans, and speak spanish...only in a different accent which could be faked. But I found out how Mexicans determine probable cause to check immigration status:
They take the person aside, and ask them to sing the Mexican national anthem. If you can't sing it perfectly, they ask for your papers. Should we try the same thing here?
if u say this is not common ur full of bs because ive need through this my whole life and so have a number of light skinned non speaking mexicans who are basically "white boys". this is nothing new to me, a lot of the hardcore mexican men look down on non speaking mexicans..and me i look white anyways. ive been tease and treated like crap by them a lot of times... even about an hour ago... ive had friends who say the same thing happens to them regularly.. im not imaging things this is very real.. ive seen talk shows about ppl who feel exactly the same as me... dont deny it...
it sucks but what can i do? freaking mexicans...
The Philippines is a former Spanish colony they have been ruled by Spain for 377 years they have Spanish surnames but only 2% to 3% of Filipinos have Spanish ancestry i'm just wondering why Filipinos don't speak Spanish why did they abandon the Spanish language does anyone know why Mexico like the Philippines is a former Spanish colony they have Spanish surnames but i don't know what percentage of Mexicans have Spanish ancestry but Mexicans never abandoned the Spanish language they still speak Spanish how come Filipinos don't speak Spanish anymore why did Filipinos abandon the Spanish language the Mexicans never did they kept the Spanish language they never abandoned the Spanish language does anyone know why.
You get Mexicans who've been in the US for several generations, do they still speak Spanish? Many are in Mexico. People like Robert Rodriguez and Eva Longoria have roots in the US for ages, do they still speak Spanish??
Why do Mexicans not lose their language, while all the Germans, Irish, Italians etc cannot speak those languages in the US?
Then if Mexicans answer them back, they cry anti-semitism!
They pretend to make us believe we mexicans, are still Aztecs who speak nahuatl.
They think we Mexicanos are Native Americans, and they try to label us as Browns. According to them Hitler was the devil and Ariel Sharon is a hero.
bah!
I am Mexican and I don't need that cheap tehoric!
I am proud of my nation, my language, my religion, my beliefs, my values, my people, and proud of America, my adoptive country.
I'm doing a presentation for my Ethics & Values class. My group is doing stereotyping. How do you stereotype different ethnic groups, specifically Mexicans? This isn't meant to hurt or harm. It is an effort to get people to think about this and to know that it is an ethical issue. I need information on how this is both harmful and helpful. I know that this is a harsh, tough topic to speak about, but I need all the help I can get.
I'm from Spain, and i always tried to learn english because is the languaje of the country where i live. But the mexicans that i know, live in this country for years, and they don't speak a word. Why?
Is it a race issue? Whenever someone complains about immigrants, they are usually talking about Mexicans. Why? People don't seem to be bothered by Europeans who speak something other then English. Why is it more ok for them to come here?
I wonder why actors like Penelope Cruz, Antonio Banderas, etc (who are from Spain), are always doing roles of Mexicans, or Latin Americans in general. Can´t they just have a Mexican actor? Is this some racist, post-colonial mindset?
I saw on tv they having a conversation, for sure they were speaking mexican because they have that peculiar accent so i thought they were two mexicans until i knew the other guy was argentinian.
But i can be mistaken because argentina is far away from mexico.
spanish - white / mexicans - latino?
what is the difference?
Will Western Union stop bleeding the Great U.S.A. by sending money to Mexico ? Will Vicente Fox share his wealth ? Will Mexico stop being poor and corrupt ? Will Mexicans stop speaking the language of the people that conquered them ? Will a border be built that is serious about security ? Will President Bush not be influenced by his Mexican born sister in law ? Will the U.S.A. grow up and have a real immigration policy ? Will the U.S. have a non Hispanic attorney general ?
Ok I'm not trying to diss on mexicans I'm just wanting your opinion. (I have a lot of mexican friends so I'm not racists or anything) At my work there are always people who can't speak english and it bugs me so bad! They are always wanting special privlages cuz they don't know our language. Like when I'm taking their order, they want someone else to take it, I really hate that. I just think that if you are going to live in another country, you should learn the lanuage first. What do you guys say?
A Mexican-American colleague claimed that Mexicans are offended when non-Hispanic Americans speak Spanish. However, I was under the impression that Americans were criticized by the rest of the world for speaking only English.
funny, isn't it?? Mexicans never had their own language, they speak Spanish, but sometimes my friends see some Latinos talking to each other in Spanish and then they whisper "listen, isn't it Mexican? It sounds like they speak Mexican. They look like they are Mexican." And I was like "Is Mexican a language???"
my other question is why do some people think all Spaniards speak Spanish?
I have no idea. Once me and a friend were talking with a tourist and at the end we asked him "were are you from?" he said he was from Spain, and my friend automatically said "oh, we study Spanish at school" yes we do but not all Spaniards speak Spanish,...my friend tried to say some words but the man didn't understand anyways because he speaks Gallego "I speak Gallego, not Spanish".
Hahah it was funny because my friend didn't understand a f***
in Spain people speak Castilian (what we call Spanish), or Catalan, Gallego, Euskera, etc.
Spanish Language in the World? you cant really make it out, I would say the best English spoken language is Spoken by Americans, and the best spoken language is Spoken by Mexicans, when I say best I mean it being more understandable and clearer and cleaner.
I know they speak Spanish, but Mexicans speak somewhat differently than in Spain. That's what I meant.
Yes, I'm a girl.
We're going to Mexico so I can meet her father and his side of the family. I'm a rather alto y flaco fellow, and I wasn't blessed with the dark complexion Mexicans enjoy. I speak some Spanish, but what else can I do to try not to stand out so much in her motherland? I'm already working on growing a mustache, but I don't think that will be enough. I don't have a panza, no sombrero, and authentic Mexican comida is probably going to tear me up. Suggestions?
So do all of Central & South America. Why is our nationality being ignored for this generic nonsense?. It's the Chinese, the Americans, the French, the Italians, the Spaniards, the English, the Germans, etc. We're Mexicans, Panamanians, Colombians, Cubans -- we are Hispanic because we speak Spanish. We are not Italians, we are not Latins, we don't speak Latin.

the inability to pronounce the R's (the easiest consonant to pronounce) and ae's. always that same peculiar rythm.
why is it? 50 million of mexicans in a country with 300 million people, that's why they think that everybody is mexican?
if u can pronounce the r's and ae's properly NOBODY will think u are mexican.
but in american movies fe, every non english speaker speaking english speak like the mexicans.
I'm doing a common Mexican "Mythconceptions" Project for my Spanish class, and was wondering if most native Mexicans (living in Mexico) know more English than most Americans know Spanish.
ie. If Mexicans know how to ask simple questions, and Americans only know around 5 words.
I am so sick of hearing how poor Mexico is and that is why they come here. And that many years ago this was mexico, etc etc. Fact is, its not. Why is it so hard for mexicans to come here legally and learn English. If they did they would be respected. Walking around in America with the mexican flag saying they demand to be treated equally when they are here legally, speaking in spanish, is not going to help them. Also, why is it that they are leaving mexico beacuse its poor and run down, yet thats what they turn their neighborhoods they move into in THE UNITED STATES! I would think they would want to respect it more, not turn it into mexico.
I've always been sort of amazed at how my Mexican classmates speak English and Spanish fluently. I can't even speak my own language which is kind of a shame.. Although I understand completely. So US born Spaniards/Mexicans, did your parents teach you? I'm very curious. Thank you.
Rise your hand, drop a comment, be respectful, be intelligent, or skip answering, and go to answer another question.
Thanks.
My point is: Look all around.... You will find many, many, many Mexican-Americans.
Even if they don't look like mexicans or like americans.
Got it?
Besides that review the History of the U.S. SouthWest, and find the Point.
Can Spanish people be deep olive-skin toned, or can only Mexicans be like that? And what is a defining difference between the two? Can Spanish people share Mexican names, and can Mexican people share the same Spanish names (IE: PABLO, DIEGO).
I went to a Mexican restaurant
It is owned by Mexicans, they serve Mexican food and the waiters even speak Spanish.
The restaurant atmosphere is also very similar to Mexico
However when I pay the Bill they refuse to accept Mexican currency.
Why did they do this?
Can they be sued? If so, under what law?
If mexicans are so proud to be mexican, why do they speak the lingo of the conquistadores? those who raped and pillaged and enslaved the real mexicans? why do european looking people dominate their culture as if they're real mexicans? the fact is they are not and remants of the spaniards. Shouldn't real mexicans take back their country from the spaniards and learn to speak their true lingo? oh yeah, do any of you so called proud 'mexicans' know what ONE of those lingos is??? i'm guessing few if any do cause you're brainwashed. let's hear it.
servocal? you're a putz there is no bigotry in my statement ONLY FACT!!! hispanic? ANOTHER MADE UP TERM!!! where is hispania? made up term with no meaning other than to cultural marxists. moron.
Do people honestly not realize how many countries besides Mexico speak spanish? I'm from Argentina and almost everytime someone finds out I speak spanish they ask me what part of Mexco I'm from. Not that I have anything against Mexicans it just bothers me.
hispanic isnt a race jsut spanish speakers so any race can be hispanic and mexicans speak spanish and the race is meztiso why are people so damn stupid?
i know some mexicans speak their ancient aztec language
why dont you come abck with a better come back to emo bitch i bet you have no friends thats why you come hear spaming my questiosn and shit i hope you kill youreselfe and i MEAN IT
We are all aware that being an illegal doesn't automaticaly make you a Mexican. There are illegals from so many other countries.
The Mexican-Illegals claim that we are racist if we are Anti-illegal.
Many of us (myself included) speak out against the Mexican illegals the most frequently.
Could it be because the Mexican illegals are the only ones who are attempting to take a part of America, could it be because they are the only ones burning our flag, or telling us they hate us?
So many Pro's claim that those are a small fraction of them, that they don't speak for the majority. They also claim that the majority are uneducated and are only looking for a new life.
Who will the uneducated listen to, the educated leaders who tell them we are the enemy, or us, who tell them to leave our country?
My question is, if the Mexicans don't like being singled out, why have they done everything in their power to show that they are a special group with no concern for anyone not of their race?
smany of us go back and forth between complaining about Mexican-illegals and all Illegals.
Why do the Mexican-illegals only talk about themselves in their Q/A's?
They don't want this to be racial, and yet they show they only care for their race.
ladiB812, Please expand. What do you mean by "nice try"?
If you think I am a troll causing trouble, you are wrong.
I am simply asking why.
Why, if they hold the rallies, demand attention, and define themselves as hating us, do they complain about the attention focused on them?
Isn't that what they want?
How can they say we are looking at them unfairly compared to other illegals, when they have separated themselves from other illegals?
Responder daddy: My papers are in my wallet.
Except for my favorite two which hang on my wall: My U.S. Merchant Marine Officer License, and my Honorable Discharge. I would say those two give me all the right I need to say what I want about criminal invaders.
xcilex: Waaaa yourself.
I have a mind of my own, and people like you disgust me.
Learn world History. Not white history or Hispanic History.
Look at how invasions have happened in the past and realize that we are actualy a young country which is vulnerable to this type of an invasion.
They are making the right steps and the parallels are glaringly obvious to other invasions in the world.
I don't get my info from here, I see what both sides claim and follow their links.
My belief in what the Mexicans are doing is based on what they say and on my view of world History.
Get educated, not on my side and not on yours, learn how settlement and migrations are accoomplished. This invasion is understandable. So is my resistance
I'm a 26 year old from mexican parents but born in usa. I speak spanish but i don't speak it well because i'm not a talktive person.. i'm shy and quiet. I feel i cannot improve because i don't joke around, don't like gossip and i'm just not lively like all the other mexicans i see. So, i will never be good at it if i continue to be shy? Mexican spanish doesn't have room for quiet people?
