I've been learning Spanish on my own for a while now and I'm looking to find movies/cartoons/songs etc. in Spanish to better understand the way the language is spoken in everyday life. However, I seem to find mostly Latin-American material which due to the minor differences in grammar and pronunciation is unsuitable for me.

Any suggestions on where to find non-LA Spanish material?
I am familiar with the pronunciation of simple words and phrases, I am more interested in finding slightly complex material like the dialogues that can be found in movies/cartoons. I am most definitely *not* interested in purchasing any commercial "teach yourself" packages. A link to a list of Spanish (again spain-spanish, not latin-american-spanish) movies would suffice to get me started.

i work in a preschool and i have six spanish speaking children in my classroom, three of the children are bi-linqual they can speak both spanish and english the other three can speak some but i want to learn how to speak spanish b/c i feel that if i am going to be successful at my job as a teacher i need to be able to communicate with all my children and i feel that the hispanic children would feel more comfortable if they knew that when they entered our classroom their was someone who can speak their lanquage. we do not have a translator in the building at all and i think that this is a disservice to the kids in my room...i have tried to listen to spanish tapes but it does not seem to be working i seem to learn more from the children b/c they teach me certain words and phrases in spanish but i want to learn more b/c i feel it is necessary to service not only our children but their families as well....

I always love surprising him with cute phrases or hot/sexy ones. Any will help thanks :) Also if you could tell me how to say "call you later" in Spanish. Thanks :D

so that you can correct me or translate english words/phrases into spanish and add you to my contacts?

I suppose these aren't really questions. I think he wants a native Mexican to tell us what the words/phrases/partial phrases mean.

1) Horchata

2) Chido - esta chido

3) La onda, buena onda, mala onda...

4) El cucuy

5) Chuy

Thanks for your help!

Whenever I hear Lionel Messi talk, I cannot understand him. I speak Mexican Spanish and I can, at times, pick up some words and phrases. However, I don't know if it's because Catalan sounds similar to Spanish or if he IS actually speaking Spanish.

I learned basic phrases, words and simple sentences when I studied it in school a few years ago, which I still remember, but I want to learn on my own at home to speak it FLUENTLY. I want to find the best and easiest to learn software (except for really expensive software like Rosetta Stone), something like up to 50.00, or around that, please tell me the best software that I can buy to learn Spanish in the most easy and effective way. I would really appreciate your help.

Please translate these phrases into spanish. Must be fluent and/or a resident of one of those countries. You DON'T have to translate all of them. No american spanish 3 students or crap like that. 10 points for proper answer (i'm not completely spanish illiterate so don't put stupid cuss words and stuff like that. (Latin American/Mexican Spanish only) Any other quotes in spanish (w/ english translation would be nice too. Thanks!!

"Am I boring to talk to?"

"Is it wrong for something good to happen in my life?"

"I would tell her that I love her, but I'm afraid she wouldn't feel the same way..."

"Life isn't worth living if you live it by yourself"

"Sometimes it seems that people don't take relationships as serious as I do..."

"In a mad world only the mad are sane, so why would I care what you think?"
Since Samantha decided to go off in a Spanish rant (actually I can pick out about half the words you're saying, including the cussing), I will clarify. This is not for hw and this is not for my gf. This is for one of my friends whose gf just broke up with him and died in a car accident yesterday. That's why I was so strict about the rules and crap. Happy now?

I read a lot of anti-immigrant chatter here, but I notice that more and more Americans are using the same tonal "sentence end rise" typical of Mexican street Spanish. Calling it "Valley-speak" may fool some people, but discerning polyglots can spot it immediately. It is particularly prevalent in young people and I've detected it on both coasts. The only other instance of this type of intonation occurs in certain Irish populations, but that variation is developed locally, without outside influence..

Is this one a precursor of things to come, ese?
Chukie411 & others:
I'm sure it is not intentional. In that sense language is organic and it evolves.
The intonation I refer to is when the end of a sentence is said in a higher tone than the beginning. It's one of the characteristis of California "Valley talk." You can also hear it in 90% of teen movies.
Be the way, Spanish & English are 2 of my favorite languages, so I'm OK regardless of the outcome.
Christopher: It can't make sense if you don't read it. I'm referring to intonation, not particular phrases of vocabulary.
And you're asking ME to use English?? Hee Hee.
Rosebuds & whatdoiknow:
I never said I disapprove of the change. I'm fine with it.

I need the following phrases: Take home AND

Sign and return to school

I have been dating a guy whose parents immigrated from Mexico, he speaks both Spanish and English, and I have picked up some Spanish while I've been with him. I would like to learn some words and phrases though to use when it's just the two of us. Nothing too crass :) Just something to surprise him with. Thanks for your help!

Native Mexican-spanish please. These are words and phrases that would help someone learning spanish assimilate into the young Mexican culture.

Hey so I'm learning Spanish right now and obviously it's Latin American Spanish, but I really love the accent from Spain. Can someone tell me the major differences between the two and some phrases/words that are used in Spain but not in Latin America? Gracias.
