Hello…
If you live in the USA you must learn "American spanish", but for me it’s better european spanish, like everybody said, people from Spain use VOSOTROS and we say USTEDES, so VOSOTROS means "YOU" not they as an other user said (they means ELLOS for male; ELLAS for female).
Also, they pronunce some words very nice, like the word CORAZON (heart) we pronunce it like: CORASON, and european spanish pronunce: CORATHON or something like that, another example: CIELO (wich means SKY or HEAVEN), we pronunce as SIELO, but europeans say: THIELO, you know, there are a lot of differences about pronuntiations specially with Z and C words, but spanish is a beautiful languaje to learn, so congratularions if you want to take it.

the spanish you normally speak is the Latin American spanish. But if you go to spain its basically the same but a little different. basically Some cultural things make words different like in L.A. its Ustedes but in S. its Vosotros when your are implying "They".

Latin American Spanish rarely uses the 2nd person plural "vosotros" we instead use "ustedes" but besides that it purely vocabulary. Think of the differences between British and American English, they are similar and interchangeable, yet one can notice that they are different.
I would recommend Latin American Spanish because it is more widely spoken than European Spanish and if you want to consider business, Mexico is one of the emerging economies of the world. If you want to meet women, Argentinian women presume to be the most beautiful in the world.

In spain they mostly speak a language called castellano. They use vos instead of tu, and they speak with a ceta which is a strange pronunciation on the some letter combinations such as ce and ze. They pronounce it with a lisp. Also some of the vocab is different. You can check out this site for more http://www.spainexpat.com/spain/information/castillian_spanish/

It’s just like the difference between Australian English, British English and American English. Basically the same, but with small spelling, pronounciation and lexical differences.
If you learn one, you can speak the other. Only very small minor differences, you can understand either one.
It’s like ‘root’. In Australia it means ’screw, bang, bone, fck, have sex’, so we think it hilarious when Yanks say root in another context. ‘Coger’ in Latin America means ‘to take’ but in Spain it means ‘to fck’.
